Coincidence?

Wednesday, April 01, 2009

One stormy night,
thunder striked across the black sky,
like one that you would see of one at the bowling ally...
And the wind blew,
like one that you would see of the colour of the sky...

There was a man,
in a car,
trapped on Jalan Ampang.
Not in a glass jar, but in a traffic jam.
He was impatient, restless and uncertainty sure,
as he sat still but his eyebrows danced,
as he rapped his fingers noisily against the silent engine whirl.

------

He looked up, and squinted ahead,
people were burning up bankers who were dead.
He knew he was late, and he could not wait.
His wife was in labour, for christ sake!

He unlocked the door and jumped his car,
He took out his handpone and thought afar:
"Hello dear! You hold on,
I'll be there before you're gone

'I always hoped that you would die
I would take your money and not cry'
but the line did not get through, he got a dead tone,
'Cos knncb, he was using Celcom!

He managed to reach the hospital on foot,
although he did use both as fast as he could.
Hurriedly, he rushed to the counter of the reception
Vaguely, she pointed to the room of the direction

He ran in, slamming the door open in the process
Next to his still wife stood a nurse in a pretty dress
But that wasn't the point, no it wasn't!
The graph on the respirator had plateu'd, yes it had!

'I'm sorry,' the doctor said,
'We have really done our best.'
'No, no don't be sorry,' the man said,
'Now I can finally take a rest.'

And out of the baby's mouth, came:
"NIA MAH, YOU TAKE SO LONG TO COME MEH!?"

And that was the beginning, of the Curious Case of Hooligan Howe.

P.S. If you have no idea what I'm babbling about, see here.

Grapeseekers

Near my house there's a high street with supposed London's largest open market, selling all sorts of stuff ranging from kiwi fruits to mattress covers. The prices aren't quite expensive too, especially if you go at the time when they are closing, they'll sell everything cheaper to you.

I am a big fan of grapes, I admit. It is so much cheaper here as compared to in Malaysia. So I was quite happy when I bought a large pack of grapes yesterday when the stalls were closing for the day - almost 1 kg of grapes for 1 pounds! zomg!

Then when I went home and sort to repack my grapes into small packs so that I could fit them into my fridge, I realised that almost half of that 1 kg has fallen off their braches, lying around as individual grapes in the bag. Immediately I had a brain wave!

THE FALLEN ONES!

What if they come to me for revenge?!

That totally brings a new meaning to the idiom, Revenge is sweet, isn't it?

Happy New Year!

It was -3C in London today. I just couldn't resist this... Imagine the expression of the owner tommorrow when he sees this. LOL!

My wishlist for 2009:
Get a full time job.
A new lappie.
A new suit and leather shoes.
More shirts and jumpers.
Canon 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM.
Sigma18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS.
A better camera bag
Improved cooking skills.
To master cantonese and not mix them up with my already lousy teochew or hokkien
Know to difference between different chinese dialects
Epic travel experiences and photos.
A nice pillow to sleep on.
A warm pair of slippers to wear at home.
Continuous understanding from my friends and family, extending from my erratic character.
Health and happiness for my friends and family.
Never to stay hungry for too long.

No girlfriends (Pre-emptive measure, I promise).
Too greedy, have I been? :)

Added: I need a certain f2.8 lense. dammit.

Dear Sarah,

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue.
Happy Birthday to Sarah,
Happy Birthday to you.

I must admit I almost forgot,
If it wasn't for my friendly facebook which made me not.
But before you, Sarah, try to sever my head,
Hey! I thought, I've write her a poem instead.

Well, I can't write sajaks, syairs, nor make any sense,
of that bullshit as my brain strains with such intense.
But, hmmm... there must be of something that I can write,
or her two stuffed mices will hunt me tonight.

I crack my head, pondering what I can do,
write her a food blog? No, that'll be too crude.
Oh wait, I can do another parody of her tags!
with hopes that Rambo the snake-killer would just relax.

Aurora will go bankrupt soon,
if you keep trying but buy you wun.
Cupcakes and sushis come to me,
or Sarahkate will eat all of thee.

Her mission in life is too blog a lot,
about restaurants, aliens and what's not,
It's interesting to know her life Counts 1-2-3,
And at the sound of 4, I'm gonna flee.

I have to admit, it's getting fun,
and let me let you in on one last one.
Amazingly, she doesn't know how to eat hotplate,
After all, *shrugs* her name's Sarahkate.

Oh dear, oh dear, what harm have I done!
I've announced her evil deeds to everyone!
The more I write, the more I "whoops",
I better stop writing before I do more harm than good!

And for the final paragraph, I shall do something holy,
I'll wish her happy year, yours truthfully.
You might shell me for being kinda late,
But hey, that's unfair,
You're eight hours ahead... (sad face.)

Yours Sincerely,
Chai Chun Howe, the one, the only.

P.S.: Best hopes, good wishes, and it's still the 11th on my side, so, technically, I'm not late, just being the last to wish you ok? :whistles: =P

Bank Slogans - Ad nauseam

Article extracted from The Economist.com from here (02.10.2008). Subscribe from them if you can, it's good brain food!

WHILE financial firms were taking giant punts to give their profits some va-va-voom, their marketing departments were conjuring up phrases to convey the impression that banks and insurers, like diamonds, were forever. Now that the future’s not bright, it is obvious that some were probably the worst corporate slogans in the world. From American International Group, a collapsed insurer (“the strength to be there”), through to Lehman Brothers (“where vision gets built”) and IndyMac, a failed bank (“you can count on us”), boastful institutions snapped, crackled and popped under pressure.
The home of the whoppers is America, but the trend has been connecting people globally. In incredible India, ICICI, despite being the bank of a billion smiles, was led to deny rumours of a run. And pure, natural, unspoilt Iceland has bailed out its third-largest lender, Glitnir, which although fast, smart and thorough, faced a funding crisis.

Yet not all banks failed to do exactly what it said on the tin. Through their slogans, Benelux’s lenders gave an eerie premonition of the massive state rescues to come. Dexia warned that “the short term has no future,” and Fortis asked, “here today, where tomorrow?” Not since Enron invited the world to “ask why” has an interrogative slogan been as prescient.
And consider also the few, the proud, that chose just to do it and openly advertise their risks. Countrywide promoted itself as a “lender that actually finds ways to make loans”. (When debtors lost their passion to perform, it was bought for a reassuringly expensive price by Bank of America.) The mortgage agency Fannie Mae, now state-controlled, fully disclosed that “as the American dream grows, so do we,” making clear what would happen if the world lost its faith in America. And no one comes close to Washington Mutual, whose slogan (“Whoo hoo”) should have given investors a clear warning about its risk appetite. Hello Boys! Wasn’t it obvious?

The Gladiator Game.

He had been sitting on the rooftop for several days now, under the merciless rain and sun. He didn't really know what was expected of him. His back was aching really badly and he wanted out as soon as possible. "Hell of a damn job," he thought while peering through his binoculars "I should have been a librarian instead."

His job was to observe his target. At times, his target would just stay motionless, driving the senses out of him and rendering his mind numb. At times, his target would move like a cheetah, urging him to the brinks of desperation. And all he could do, was to observe, and wait.

His target knew that he was there, oh yea, she did. She was a sitting duck, knowing that people were observing her from every single angle possible, yet she stayed, as instructed by her superiors. She often found it difficult to calm herself down.

At times she trembled in fear tied to a chair in the middle of a clearing, for she knew her time was almost up. At times she felt, so helpless, as she was unwanted by her superiors and they had forsaken her, leaving her with no other place to go. At times, she felt so impatient, not knowing why death wouldn't claim her earlier. "Damn it," she thought tied to a chair with tears trickling down her cheeks "I should have been a stationary seller instead."

It was like an extreme cat and mouse game. Prey and Predator. Edwin and fried chicken.

With much automation, he got into a front crawl position and double corrected his sniper's aim on her head. He peeked at his watch from the corner of his eye, it was almost time. He knew he wasn't alone on this, there were at least 8 other people at various adjacent positions, waiting with murderous intent. "Who ever got the kill first, wins the game," he thought "And it's gonna be me. "

Buzzer goes off.

Thunderous shots echoed through the air. Dust gradually settled. What left in place on the chair was a bloody mess. Her legs remained but her body, was in pieces all over the place radiating away from her like a child's art work of a red sun. "I'm sorry, my child", he thought as he recovered "But life's a bitch, so accept it."

Cheers erupted from the stands as his name flashed up from the big screen. He had won! He had managed to win the game! He stood up, triumphantly, throwing his fists in the air, but suddenly the crowd died down. Bewildered, he turned around to see 3 man in black suits solemnly walking towards him.

"What is this!?" he shouted in confusion and uneasiness.

"Mr Howe, sorry but to inform you this, but you don't have enough money in your Paypal account! "

- Chunhowe, on steaming when he won an ebay auction item, and potong steaming when he realised his paypal account had insufficient funds inside.

My poor terrapin knew it was dangerous but at the same time knew it wasn't something she could handle! I immediately grabbed my terrapin by the hind legs, spun her like a football, dribbled her pass 4 defenders, took her up, shot for 3 pointer, missed, rebounded, volleyed her against the goalpost, and as she flew back, I slapped her with an iron 7 golfclub into the house and proceeded to kill the gorilla. Scraps of Random Thoughts #01

Seriously, i need to get my priorities right this time. Proudly, I failed my taxation paper in progress test 1. Aha, not funny. This is probably the second time I'm failing a main test in my CAT/ACCA program, you know? The last time was my mock exams in my audit paper. However, i secured 60+ marks in the actual exams, thanks to many days of serious studies and work, along with peer support and stuff.

=D

Oh well, its another month to the progress test 2. My lecturer has mentioned that if anyone fails this time, its no more classes for him/her. Aiks...

.

After a quick reply to yeeyoon's tagpost, I sat down and thought through what I really wanted to do with my angbao money, along with my savings and stuff. Probably being an accounting student and currently taking a finance paper, it was definitely certain that leaving my money in the bank wouldn't do much good. In fact, the rate of inflation would do more detriment to our money marginally offset by the meagre interest returns. If the bank's taking my money to make more money, why not let me make it myself? Aha!

Siao ah? Mad ah?

Goodness, I have not even graduated.

.

Just came back earlier from Taman Desa after kena cheated by Xiaoyen to go to Midvalley. Managed to watch the first half at a mamak called "Neesan" (lol sister? cannot rmbr. but Neesin sounds like some japanese noodles leh. might be another Amy. hahahaha! ) Then pro-lly went to the mamaks near my college to watch the remaining last 15 minutes. Nice milo ice and teh tarik.

ManUtd won Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield. Wohoo~ Glory ManUtd!

.

Sweats. That day, i came back from Genting and was utterly tired. That night itself, I had this sick, throbbing headache as I was gleefully typing in front of my com. Suddenly, there was this sickly sweet smell of flowers, just floated out of no where.

O.o

It was without a doubt not a good sign. In stories that i read, a sweet smell like that would normally mean a dirty thing present, something we call a potianak. With no one else in the room, and my weak self with a bloody throbbing headache, i was quite freaked! Could it be that it followed me down from Genting? O-M-G. WTF wei.... Genting is definitely not a clean place, as everyone knows! Walau wei I damn suai lah. F*cking scared, i grabbed my stuff and ran to my friend's room.

When I came back later that night, the smell had vanished. To my relief.

Now, exactly at 4am, I damn f*cking smelled the same smell again, as i try my best to fart to cover up the smell. I cannot help but to feel all the hair on my body standing up, even if I don't have much of body hair. I didn't dare to turn around much, nor look into anything that might reflect light. Its cold, my window's open and its just within sight at a turn of a head.

Then it f*cking occured to me that I had exactly smelled the same smell in Langkawi...

KNN! MY HOUSEMATE WAS SMOKING FLAVOURED CIGARETTES
