Dotori Japanese Restaurant Gallery

Fyne, Stan, Wendy and me went for a japanese/korean meal the other day to celebrate mourn er, have a nice lunch over the fact the Fyne was going to leave us on the 24th May (Yes, backdated post).

In fact, the whole table of us was planning to leave in due course, first with Fyne, then Stan (June), then Wendy and me (August). So appropriately, we should call this a farewell dinner for the all of us.

We ordered a full set meal, from starters to halfwayers to enders and to main courses.

Nippon Gyoza.

This was probably my favourite of all, its prawns were so fresh I could have sworn that they were alive.

Sashimi set, for Stan, the Sashimi lover.

Close-up. See the fish fibres!

Noodles of an unknown source.
Seafood Bulgogi? Fyne said once its seafood, it's not called bulgogi anymore. Anyone help?

Sushi! A whole platter of sushi!

Korean soup. Sedap!

And yea la, when I was on my way home only did I realise that although Fyne was leaving, I didn't take any pictures of her. *facepalm* So here's a picture of her and me visiting the Nottinghill Carnival last year!

AWWWW! SO SWEET!!!

Fyne: when i go back only i 补 one picture of you ok? :P

Que Sehra, Sehra.

*que slow orchestra music*

When I was just a little boy,
I asked my mother, what could I be?
Will I be pretty? Will I be sweet?
Here's what she said to me.........

*drumroll... everybody who can sing it, sing with me!*

QUE SARAH! SARAH!
WHAT EVER WILL BE, WILL BE
IF YOU WANT TO BE YUNA, YOU SHALL BE!

QUE SARAH, SARAH...
WHAT WILL BE, WILL BE.

Yours sincerely,
your good friend, Chunhowe.

P.S. I must say, I did a pretty good job. Although I do admit that I accidentally shaved off her eyebrows in the process (not that she had much anyway). Can la, right?

The Pictorial Journeys: The Task in Belfast

Day 4

Day 1 link
Day 2 Part 1 link
Day 2 Part 2 link
Day 3 Part 1 link
Day 3 Part 2 link

The day started off bright sunshine and a clear sky, looking forward to our trip to the coast of Ireland, specifically, the Giant's Causeway.

But before we do, here's another dosage of unhealthy breakfast!
Don't you just love breakfasts with large servings? yum!

And so, we whisked ourselves off for a long bus ride, running along the coastal lines of Ireland. The scenery along the way was stunning, but not as stunning as we were about to be.

We finally arrived at the Giant's Causeway (note the words "National Rust" behind). For people who are uncertain of what it is, here's our friendly friend, wikipedia!
The Giant's Causeway (or Irish: Clochán na bhFómharach)[1] is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and a National Nature Reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named as the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (36 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places.

When we arrived, the weather had deteriorated much, to our dismay. It had started to drizzle and the guide said that if we wanted, we could just rest and chill out at one of the restaurants around.

Like what? After coming this far and not making it till the end? Hell no! *rush of heavy waves clashing against the coast*

And after a walk of nearly 15 minutes, we finally arrived at our UNESCO heritage site: The Giant's Causway!

To understand why Giant's Causeway is called so, there was once 2 giants who wanted a duel. So one of them decided to build a bridge from Ireland where he was staying, to Scotland where the other was. Upon arrival, the cari-pasal giant saw from afar how big the other giant was and quickly ran back with his tail between his legs.

"fee fo fum. We are the newest rock band - The Old Giant Pair!" (crap. I didn't realise that it was me, not Adlan in the picture).

When the Scottish giant knew that the Irish had come but ran back, he went across to challenge him. (WTH? people don't want to find trouble with you liao, you go find him for what?) The Irish giant was scared, quickly pakat'd with his wife (they had wives!?), and jumped hid in a crib inside his house (have babies somemore!?).

When the Scot Giant knocked on the door (knocking on doors... -.-"), the wife opened it but said he wasn't in. The Scot caught a glimpse of how huge their "baby" was and thought: "OMG, how possibly huge could the Irish be!?" In fear, he ran back across, tearing up the causeway as he went.

So much for a tale of the Giant's Causway right? Haha! But anyway, as we went on, we took more and more pictures. I bet by now you should have seen the hexagonal columns sticking on from the ground right?

As we posed and posed for more shots: A "We-Are-Power-Ranger" shot.

And we had to make a "WHO-AMM-IIIiiii~?" shot!

"YOU ARE THEREEEe!"

Haha, ok la, enough of processed shots. Let's stick with something original:

Climbing the columns till the highest one! And knelling against the battering winds! (actually want to stand up, but couldn't because I scared of falling down/dying/disfiguring my lengzai face, my most important asset)

And yea, as time went by, the weather got from bad to worse. But being the fighters that we were, we pushed on!

"OK OK I'M COMING!" (actually this was taken close to the entrance, but it kinda seem to fit the theme)

Giant's Boot with a lot of errr... sea foam. Giant's Saliva?

This is the Giant's Organ, which seems to fit as they ran up vertically like organ tubes.

Opera material la, this two.

Here's a seriously photoshopped photo which I think I did a screw job out of. The greens are over saturated and the brightness is uneven, which was apparently the case (I took a look at Adlan's pictures, the same). But got Wendy lenglui inside so if I don't post this, she'll kill me. So yea la, here it is.

Me taking shots behind.

Me taking shots from another angle.

OK OK I ADMIT I WAS POSING!!!

...

And so anyway, we spent almost 3 hours there, walking around and "enjoying" the wind. Which was apparently turning into a storm.

A REALLY STRONG ONE!

But to keep our morale up, we sang songs mighty from the top of our lungs, like 浪花一朵朵,澎湖湾 and 笨小孩. When we finally arrived back at base, many people were staring at us, like wth? Haha!

But nevertheless, the strong trio managed to make it back, undamaged and unscathered. Hmmm, let's see, a cuppa hot chocolate would do the trick!

And before we knew it, we were on the bus back from our amazing trip from the Giant's Causeway. Awww... Nevermind also, in a few hours or so, we had rested and we headed on for dinner under a recommendation from the receptionist. Whose name I had forgotten.>_<

Wendy writing her postcard to kirim back home, next to a real fireplace. Damn got mood la, right?

The restaurant had excellent deco, and the setting was superbly placed in a pub. We enjoyed ourselves a lot the entire day, and just decided to chill out after a hard day's travelling to a delicious meal and a bit of wine.

This was my steak... superb ok?

I think this was goose's liver/foie gras (if i remember correctly).

Adlan's duck slices, which he reluctantly shared with us, I must quote... "NO! THE LAST PIECE IS FOR ME!"- Adlan

Haha, and yea la, that's the end of our enjoyable 4th day. And here's a small secret to round it off...

Secretly... shh... WENDY's ACTUALLY A LEPRECHAUN! A MALE ONE SOMEMORE!

GASP!

The Pictorial Journeys: The Task in Belfast

Day 3 (Part 2)

Day 1 link
Day 2 Part 1 link
Day 2 Part 2 link
Day 3 Part 1 link

AND SO, after a 3 hour ride from Dublin to Belfast, in which I fell snugly asleep, we arrived at the coach station and promptly proceeded to check in with our hostel. After a short search, throwing our bags and talking to a very unhelpful lansi receptionist (here's a ..l.. for you), we got to know that there was a christmas market nearby. So Wendy dragged the both of us out.

Spot the Belfast Festival logo on the left. The logo was subject to some criticism for being too ordinary for the cost they paid, being a tilted love shape posing as the letter "B". But that's a side story for another day...

And so, we encountered the biggest christmas tree we had encountered in our entire trip of Ireland! At the town hall christmas market!

There were many stalls around selling all sorts of stuff, with a lot of people walking around. There was a live choir singing just by the steps of the town hall entrance, which added significantly to the Christmas atmosphere that we had found so lacking in Dublin.

And of course, we were hungry, so we first preyed on the bratwursts a.k.a. sausages cooked on the traditional method of sausage-cooking, which I first encountered in my trip to Bremen.

His expression tells it all!

The omnipresent burger stall at every christmas market.

Chocolate and candy shop, selling a large variety of christmas candy, which we could only feast our eyes on or else we would have all died of diebetes.

Chocolate Truffles! - Officially my favourite type of chocolate, the smooth creamy milk chocolate mixed with the rich texture of truffles... salivate!

More chocolates!

I'm a huge fan of this - mashed potatoes, sausages and cheese! OoooOooOH~

At the curry shop, with one of them being the Malaysian Rendang favour. Looks like this dish has become one of our national export treasures! See how empty it is!?

*burp.*

wasn't me, ok?

Fried mushrooms over a giant saucepan over a huge flame. Crap, it sure looks good. I feel hungry now.

She's sulking because she wants more mushrooms, but me and Adlan had to stop her or we would have to pay for excessive baggage charges. XD

and holycrap, the real, uncensored, literally OMGBBQ roasted pork!! Hoooo~

 SH***TTTTT! Looks damn good ok???

Fighting over roast pork! Nevermind, don't worry, gor gor will separate them.

The bakery shop... a huge variety of confections that you couldn't believe your eyes!

Here, I made a huge mistake of asking them for the traditional scottish bread, if they had one. The lady said this line with a bone-piercing glare:

"We're French," and she turned away.

Ouch.

Kangaroo burgers! omg, I'm sure that they're not from Australia... *whistles*

Wendy with lengzai chef.

Besides food, they sold all sorts of toys, clothes and christmas stuff, and the storekeepers were very kind and allowed us to haggle prices with them.

Russia dolls... See how small the smallest one in the blue set is!?

There was so much people walking around, eating and shopping, laughing and enjoying themselves, it was definitely much more "festive"-ly than our time spent in Dublin.

There was even a shop selling a myriad of festive plants and ornaments.

Like little Santa Clauses!

Haha, and so, in the end, we went back home feeling and tired and full with both food and glee!

And on that note, which I think you guys are seriously thinking of fetching yourselves a cup of potnoodles, I shall end the day 3 part 2 of my trip to Ireland. Catch back soon for the Day 4 of my "The Task in Belfast" series, where we tackle one of the toughest weather conditions, against all odds!
