Dragon Tiger Gate

this is supposed to be quite a short post coz i still got some audit work to draft and write out... (roars at ms kiran)

last night i went to pyramid with ben, jonathan & lung to catch this super super nice cantonese show called "Dragon Tiger Gate"!!

Now dun be thrown of becoz its name is so 'cina' and that its in cantonese.. but i think u shld really catch it! the show is full of fights and chunted martial arts movement. Nicholas Tse aka "naga wong"(malay subtitles roxxor) makes superb round house kicks and beautiful sweeping movements. while jonnie yen aka "harimau wong" does these dreamy like punches with visual impression of 'chi' movements and not forgetting shawn yue aka turbo dragon (i think) with his dancing nunchaku. its cool!

overall the show is sooooooo hongkong-comic like. i mean, at first glance, it shows modern skyscrapers and nice nice buildings.. but when the show gets deeper, u see old chinese temples, and the bad guy, Lo Sha i think, has this weird looking mask and can pump energy out of his hands as his devastating move! (i tot he tied heaters to his hand, thats why it keep glowing red) And when it was the final showdown, it was like fighting in a pyramid with many many levels of sand like walls made out of biscuit!! walls, pillars, floors and stairs kept breaking into chunks and powder. Also also, there was this scene where the protangonists were beaten up badly, they had to seek this "Incredible Qi" on this temple on top of a mountain where he was supposed drawing pictures in this pagoda. =.=" LAME RIGHT? the whole show feels like its a misfit from the past ancient chinese film into a modern setting, but the cut wasnt glued properly.

But the show indeed mmakes a very good attempt at visual effects and photography, like lighting effects and slight CGIs.. omg thats awesome la, seriously. And the action keeps you very glued.

VERDICT? 6.5 punches out of 10. why? weird settings and its uncanny resemblance to traditional hk comic storylines. but den, if youre looking out for dead bodies and chun chun kungfu movement, this is the show to catch!

cheers~
